Originally from rural Somerset, now studying at the RNCM in Manchester, Owen is a 20 year old singer/songwriter. He first picked up a guitar when he was 7 and has been hooked ever since. Owen wrote music all through his formative years at school and shared it with the world via his debut EP released in 2019. When lockdown hit the following year, Owen spent the time indoors honing his craft . The time spent inside during lockdown was where Owen realised he really wanted to pursue a career in music; not gigging and performing seemed almost unbearable so when restrictions were lifted, he made the most of it by touring Somerset with the Rural Music Network. Owen's most recent release, 2023's Empty Seat, explores complex themes of growing up and understanding the world we live in, presented in folk influenced guitar based ballads. Now studying in Manchester, Owen faces new challenges and opportunities to take his music further.
Owen's original music often touches on themes of growing up and finding yourself in a world that is changing so rapidly. He draws on his own experiences, weaving them into hard hitting ballads that deeply resonate with his generation. He states, 'I've always been fascinated by the emotions you can convey with just your voice and a guitar. Writing music has often been like a therapy and way to process things for me. I hope others can find that in it. Storytelling in music is really important to me, I always aim to write something more than just a catchy hook but something more personal, meaningful and intimate. That's where the beauty of music really is for me.' Owen's latest release is just this, an 8-track concept album telling a story of love, loss and change, appealing to young adults experiencing this first hand.
